Here’s what founder Dan Arnold says when we ask him to explain how his world-famous condiment brand was born:
THE “Sucker-Buster” was born in the early 1970s in the imagination of a 10 year old boy raised in East Texas. One night, returning from the East Texas State Fair (a revered annual event in my hometown of Tyler), Dad asked, “Did you drive the” Sucker-Buster “? It was in the back … but hey, they let it ride. only to the BIG guys, “he said with a huge smile. I had no idea what a Sucker-Buster was, or if my dad was serious, but I wanted to find out. I dreamed it was a big, crazy, crazy race that might scare you. To death. Did I miss the greatest fair race of all time? I went back the following year and came back just to make sure Dad was joking. It was. But the name stayed around …
Over the years I have experimented with spices and mixed some extra seasoning and kept it in the cupboard. Whenever I needed to add a little extra flavor to something, I used my secret spice recipe, now renamed “SuckleBusters”. At one point we started using the name to describe how I cooked, “Dude, I had some great steak last night!” Later, a friend invited us to organize the inauguration of his business. “What do you call yourself?” he asked him. I snapped “SuckleBusters”. The name remained and the beginning of a company was born. Little did I know …
In the early 2000s we became more health conscious and sought healthier foods. We noticed it had all the dressing we could find; MSG, artificial fillers, dyes, preservatives or ingredients with names you can’t pronounce and this was in the healthy foods section! We have decided there and then to produce high quality toppings that taste great and are healthy too! So in 2006 SuckleBusters Inc. was born.
SuckleBusters means Bustin ‘with Flavor. It is the WOW factor when you taste our products for the first time. We use simple recipes with few ingredients to make the best products we can make, every time with the best natural ingredients we can find. There are no chemicals, preservatives or artificial ingredients in our products. We focus on genuine products with a keen eye for quality.
